Wall Art of the Future…Robots vs Humans?

Have you seen Robbie the Robot in the classic sci-fi series and film, ‘Lost in Space’? Will Smith in Isaac Asimov’s ‘I Robot’? Or, the current TV series, ‘Humans’?

These films challenge credibility, are fabulous, thrilling and exciting. It is reassuring that they are works of fiction...

Will they remain make believe, or is this robotic artificial intelligence fantasy becoming a reality, now that we are in the 21st Century?

From the industrial revolution to the digital revolution, humanity has been transformed through radical changes which have changed the way we live and govern ourselves. Will the evolution of Artificial Intelligence, and its applications, be more transformational?

Artificial intelligence will impact society just as much as the industrial revolution and the digital revolution. This could mean we will see an arms race over autonomous weapons just as we saw with nuclear weapons. It could also mean the cultural transformation of work and leisure.

The way that we perceive of as work today might not be the same tomorrow. It's possible that human labour could simply become less important as robots can do most of the work. This could create an opportunity for human workers to be freed from required labour.

Will this be empowering, enslaving or revolutionary for our children and grandchildren?

Is it possible for robots, now or in the future, to become artistic, show creativity, and be inventive and imaginative?

If there’s one exhibition to see, to test this theory, then it’s ‘Artistes et Robots’ at the Grand Palais in Paris

It is an exhibition showing from April 5th to July 9th, 2018. In this exhibition, all the works displayed are made (or one could say ‘created’) by robots! This ‘Artificial Imagination’ is a common term to design robotic art, generative art and algorithmic art.

A new product to market, exemplifying robot wall art which is practical and fun, is the application called…SCRIBIT.

Invented by the U.S. Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Professor Carlo Ratti (Italian architect, engineer, inventor, educator and activist), Scribit is a new robot drawing machine that creates text and images using erasable inks. The project’s creators advertise it as a useful tool in work environments as well as an easy and interchangeable way to decorate one’s home with wall art scenes. The robot draws its imagery either from an app or from files that users upload themselves. Scribit is currently funding on ‘Kickstarter’, where it reached its financial goal within two hours. This is one to watch!

Scribit looks fun but the results are not as brilliant as the modern metal wall art at Brilliant Wall Art.

Please view the excellent examples of ‘human imagination’, Abstract Metal Wall Art and Contemporary Metal Wall Art.

My personal favourite is the Purple Abstract Skew metal wall art. The abstract shapes have a skewed and raised design. It has a rustic purple silver colour tone finish and is made by hand from metal. Easily hung in any direction using the rear mounting bracket. This modern wall art décor measures approximately 71cm (28") wide by 46cm (18") high.
