Michael Jackson Wall Art – It’s Bad

Remember Michael Jackson?

Who could forget this pop icon?

A new art exhibition in London depicts Michael Jackson as a saviour, a saint, an entertainer, an icon, a monarch, a mask and a mystery.

The National Portrait Gallery show explores the way contemporary artists have been drawn to the late King of Pop, as an artistic inspiration, a tragic figure and a fascinating enigma. Gathering Michael Jackson art by 48 artists, the famous wall art exhibit includes Jackson-inspired paintings, photographs, videos, textiles and ceramics.

It ranges from 1980s pop-art portraits by Andy Warhol and Keith Haring to David LaChapelle’s depictions of a Christ-like Jackson and Kehinde Wiley’s vast portrait of the entertainer as a king on horseback.

Cullinan’s idea was sparked while conducting research for an Andy Warhol prints exhibition nearly a decade ago. Starting from Warhol’s own screen print portraits of Jackson for Time magazine in 1984, a point of focus in one room of this show, he realised just how many artists have been drawn and continue to be drawn to Michael Jackson as a subject.

Cullinan was also fascinated by how Warhol and Jackson together were the perfect marriage of concepts in contemporary culture: the King of Pop Culture with the King of Pop.

Curator and Gallery Director, Nicholas Cullinan said that the show, coming nine years after Jackson’s death, explores “how he could mean so many different things to so many people?” He added that … “This is not a biography or a memorabilia collection, a retrospective of his career through the prism of music, dance, fashion or a study of his fame. This exhibition is dedicated to his influence on contemporary art.”

Have you ever bought any artwork that is ‘off the wall’?

Why not take a look at the interesting and unique wall art at Brilliant Wall Art?

Our metal wall art range is incomparable. This unique art form creates a focal point like nothing else can. From the extraordinary colours and finishes to the crispness that only metal wall art can provide, these pieces are stunning.

Metal wall art is possibly one of the most durable decor items you can have in your home. Many metal wall art pieces can be used indoors or out. They are more durable than some other mediums. In comparison to some other art forms, metal wall art is surprisingly inexpensive.

We also showcase an unusual abstract wall art range.

My TOP TIP is the Button Abstract metal wall art. It is an abstract design with a rustic distressed finish

It is made by hand with button design detail, rope highlights and can be hung in any direction

It is easy to hang and measures approximately 23cm (9") wide by 61cm (24") high. Ideal for a needlework or craft room.
