Decorative Wall Art is Spooky on Halloween

Halloween began as the festival of Samhain. It was part of the ancient Celtic religion in Britain and other parts of Europe. The Celts thought, that at the end of summer, the barrier between our world and the world of ghosts and spirits could be lifted in certain circumstances. This meant weird creatures with strange powers could wander about on Earth. The Festival was created to scare away these ghosts and spirits.

Further origins of Halloween originate in the eighth century, when Pope Gregory III decreed that November 1st would be the time to honour all saints and martyrs. This is where All Hallows Day and All Saints’ Day originates from. The evening before was known as All Hallows’ Eve and this later became known as Halloween. The religious connotations behind why Christians celebrate All Saints’ Day is because they believe that there is a spiritual bond between those in heaven and the living.

Later during the 19th century, Irish (Celtic) immigrants to the United States raised the popularity of Halloween during the 19th century. Then during the 20th century it became more and more popular, with traditions like pumpkin carving and trick or treating becoming part of TV shows, books and movies. The UK has reflected this commercialisation of Halloween (Samhain, All Hallows Day and All Saints Day) over the last past few decades.

It is great fun to dress up, carve pumpkins, ‘trick or treat’ and decorate one’s home with decorative wall art that are all things ghostly and spooky. Country Life magazine says:

“When you think of Halloween, costumes and candy are usually the first things that come to mind. But just like it's the one time of the year where you can dress up in your favorite homemade outfits, we think you should also get creative with DIY Halloween decorations for your home.”
